Short Note- Mock-epic
Mock-epic, also called mock-heroic, form of
satire that adapts the elevated heroic style of the classical epic poem to a
trivial subject. It has all the characteristic of an epic poem. Alexander
Pope’s “The Rape of the Lock” is the best known and most brilliant example of
its kind. In it there are invocations to
Muses, proposition of subject,
battles, supernatural machinery, journey on water, underworld journey, long
speeches, feasts, Homeric similes and grand
style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle.
